2018 Accomplishments
- Kathy Gallino was our first public speaker for the year. Kathy is the new Director of economic Development for Calaveras County.
- The WBA had a booth at the Children's Fair in San Andreas. More than 90 kids made book marks and the WBA handed out pens at the event.
- Purchased an eight foot soldier for our annual Field of Flags event.
- We had four large service emblems made for the Field of Flags event ( Marines, Army, Navy and Air Force. Next year, we will get a Coast Guard emblem made.
- Debbie Schug and Tracey Sawyer from the Area 12 Agency on Aging were our May public speakers. They covered the services offered by their agency. Their website can be found at https://www.area12.org/
- Officer elections were held in May and the President, Secretary, and Treasurer were re-elected.
- The WBA awarded one scholarship to Elizabeth Bline at Mountain Oaks.
- Four Seniors at Calaveras High School were recipients of our scholarships for 2018:
- Ryan DeHerrera
- Taylor Warden
- Cheyenne Carreras
- Marilou Sandoval
- The WBA held their annual Field of Flags event. All proceeds from this event go to those activities that we support, such as scholarships, support for the Resource Center, Santa Smiles and other Holiday events.
- The WBA scheduled and completed four Highway 12 cleanups for this year.
- Members assisted the Tri-Lakes Baptist Church with their October Trunk or Treat event.
- The WBA adopted 15 kids and seniors provided by the Calaveras Health and Humans Services Department.
- Ten kids were adopted from the Valley Springs Elementary School.
- The WBA participated in the Holiday craft fair as well as the holiday parade.
- The WBA and the Tri-Lakes Baptist Church donated over 420 pounds of food to the Calaveras Resource Center.
